Davis Cup Finals | Portland, Oregon | November 30 - December 2, 2007
The USTA has announced that Portland's Memorial Coliseum will host the 2007 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final between USA and Russia, subject to a successful site visit by the ITF.
This will be the first Davis Cup Final that Portland has hosted after successfully hosting two Davis Cup semifinals in 1981 and 1984. All parties are anticipating a full capacity audience in the 12,000-seat arena. Fifteen years ago, the last time Team USA hosted the Finals, Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras and John McEnroe led USA to a 3-1 victory over Switzerland in Fort Worth, Texas - one of their 31 titles in the international competition.
Russia, the defending champion, defeated Germany 3-2 in September to reach the final for the second year running - they have won the cup two out of the last five years. This upcoming final is Russia's fourth meeting with USA - the last meeting being last year's semifinals. The two teams also met in 1995 for the final at Moscow's Olympic Stadium, which was the last time USA were Davis Cup champions.
